The developer of Baldur’s Gate 3 has announced that the karmic dice feature will be fixed in the release after a post on Reddit highlighted its unfair mechanics.
The karmic dice feature is essentially designed to prevent you and everyone else from getting consecutive high rolls or failures, eliminating complete randomness in favor of a more controlled experience. Since this also affects NPCs and enemies, they have a higher chance of scoring critical hits and successful attacks when this feature is enabled.
Player research has shown that with the karmic dice enabled, you can receive up to 400% additional damage from enemies at the start. And now the community manager at Larian has responded to the research findings, explaining that it was a mistake that will be fixed in the game’s release.
Hey, I’m a bit late to the party, but I wanted to bring some clarity: this is a combination of an extreme scenario and a bug that will be fixed in the release version of the game.
The essence of the issue raised by the player is that while the karmic dice in Baldur’s Gate 3 is supposed to assist in rolls, it apparently tilts the balance towards helping enemy rolls and inflicting high damage on you, which according to Larian, has already been rebalanced and awaits its time in the release version of the game.
