NBA 2K24 is coming later this year as the latest and most immersive entry into the virtual basketball video game series with new immersive technology, game modes, and more. The yearly titles may seem at first glance as though they don’t offer many changes, yet developers have added a lot of significant updates to the upcoming edition due to it being the 25th anniversary of the franchise. Among the changes is the long-awaited and requested crossplay functionality on select systems. Though 2K is still slowly doling out information on NBA 2K24, there is a lot of exciting information that has already been revealed.
Kobe Bryant is back on the cover for the fourth time and is heavily featured throughout the NBA 2K24 gameplay experience with the new MAMBA Moments mode and more. These new challenges based on the career of the basketball legend will give players a chance to learn more about Kobe Bryant’s basketball history and see what it feels like to rise through the ranks. In addition to MAMBA Moments, the game includes many graphical and gameplay updates and new ways for players to experience the sport.
NBA 2K24 will be released worldwide on September 8, 2023, for the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Pre-orders, including for limited-time special editions of 2K24, are available now. This year will also be the 25th anniversary of the NBA 2K games and therefore a special Anniversary Edition of the game will be made available for a limited time that offers numerous extras in the game as well as a 12-month subscription to the NBA League Pass streaming service. This Anniversary Edition will be available everywhere except Belgium. Altogether, there will be four versions of NBA 2K24 available for purchase: Kobe Bryant Edition (standard), WNBA Edition, Black Mamba Edition, and the 25th Anniversary Edition.
NBA 2K24 features several new and returning modes, including the MAMBA Moments Challenges Mode that spans the career of the legendary Kobe Bryant. Similar to how NBA 2K23 offered challenges from Michael Jordan’s life, the new mode will give players a chance to attempt unique and ever-increasingly difficult situations while also providing a bit of history from Kobe Bryant’s life. Reliving some of his most epic career highlights will give players interesting skill challenges and some suggest the possibility that players will get to revisit the Michael Jordan game from NBA 2K23 but see it from the point of view of the opposing team’s Kobe Bryant.
One of the most heavily advertised new features for NBA 2K24 is crossplay, though it is exclusive to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. This has been a heavily requested feature for many years now, particularly with the sports genre’s heavy multiplayer gaming influence.
