During the XBOX Showcase 2023, a scandal erupted: compared to the game demo in 2022, where the headquarters wall of Constellation was adorned with portraits of Yuri Alexeyevich Gagarin and Valentina Vladimirovna Tereshkova, the first humans in space, in a later version, there was a portrait of an unknown dark-skinned astronaut with a halo above his head. Fans considered it sacrilege for the removal of these people from the game, accusing Bethesda of rewriting history and censorship.
As it turned out, nobody removed the portrait. It still hangs in the headquarters, just in a different place, alongside the other portraits. Interestingly, the portrait itself is based on a real photograph of Yuri Alexeyevich with the only difference being that his face is not illuminated by his famous smile.
Another joy for fans of the Soviet space heritage is that a whole planet is named after Gagarin in the game.
There is currently no information about Valentina Tereshkova’s portrait in the game.
Starfield has already been released in early access. The game will be available for everyone on September 6th. There will be no Russian language (at least on release).
