Preview of Apex Legends Season 18: Unveiling Horror and Mystery in the Apex Games

Season 18 of Apex Legends, dubbed “Resurrection,” is⁢ bringing a⁤ lot of new things⁣ to the table. Like any new season, there are quality of life ‌changes like matchmaking tweaks, refining ranked gameplay,⁤ balancing⁤ weapons ⁤and abilities, and ⁤so on. However, what makes this season particularly interesting ⁢is its⁣ focus on storytelling; both⁢ through ⁤in-game missions ⁢and events, as well as ⁤through a serialized miniseries called “Kill Code.”

The story will‍ begin with the launch⁢ of Season ⁢18 and play out over the course⁤ of 2023. During the virtual press event for this upcoming ⁢season, the ⁢development team talked a lot ⁤about how they’ve enjoyed experimenting with in-game storytelling through things like Node Captures and cinematics, but they felt like taking a more ambitious ⁢approach. One ‍big part of this approach ⁣would be through the Kill Code miniseries, which has already released‍ the first ⁢two parts. The only question left ⁢was which legend will the story focus on, and the team at Respawn decided on Revenant, an underutilized ⁤character that the team felt deserved a second chance.

Respawn always felt⁤ that Revenant was⁤ important to every ‌part of the Apex Legends experience, but it was clear that his kit was struggling to evolve ‌alongside⁣ the meta. This combination ‍led to the ‍decision to completely rework Revenant from the ground-up, ‌giving him completely⁢ new abilities, visual design, and ⁤vocal performance. ⁣The goal of⁤ these⁤ changes was ‍to ⁢reinstate the sense of‌ horror and fear⁤ he brings ‌to‌ the Apex‍ Legends universe by incentivizing aggressive, high-risk, high-reward gameplay.

Revenant’s new passive ability ⁤is “Assassin’s⁢ Instinct,” which increases his ⁤mobility through speed and wall-climbing, as well ⁢as granting him ⁣the ability to see and mark low-health enemies if ⁢they are within a certain range. His new tactical ability is “Shadow Pounce,” which, as the name implies, allows Revenant to pounce ⁣a‍ long distance to either escape⁢ combat or take ‌a distant enemy⁢ by surprise.‌ Finally, ‌his new ultimate, “Forged in⁤ Shadows,” creates a wall of shadows that absorbs incoming damage and increases⁣ Revenant’s damage output. To further encourage ⁤aggressive gameplay, the wall of shadows will‍ dissipate unless Revenant continuously deals damage. Overall, this is an ambitious rework ⁢of his character that will be free to all players throughout the season, ⁤however,‍ players must complete all of his character challenges in order to ⁤fully unlock him⁤ for use in ‌later seasons.

Respawn is continuing their efforts to refine ranked ⁣gameplay, though some of these changes may prove to be controversial. The change that⁤ may receive⁤ the⁣ most push-back⁣ will be the adjustments to how players will earn LP once reaching Diamond rank. While‌ the team didn’t get into specifics, it was stated⁢ that their will be ⁢additional rules and conditions around gaining LP at Diamond rank and beyond, specifically ⁤highlighting increased LP loss for poor performance;‌ among other⁣ harsh ⁤penalties. The reason for…
