Possible Rewrite: Yona, from the Kingdom, Might Originate from a Legendary Zelda Setting

Yona, the fiancée and later‌ wife of Sidon in The Legend‌ of Zelda: ‍Tears of⁢ the Kingdom, could actually be‌ native to a classic ⁤Zelda location. Yona introduces herself as being from ‌a Zora’s Domain outside of Hyrule’s own, but she does‌ not elaborate further on where this might be. However, given what is known of ⁤the world outside Hyrule, it is still possible to pinpoint her likely homeland.

Yona is given the epithet Caretaker of ⁢the ‍Zora in TOTK, ‍which seems to be a‍ reference to her gentle⁣ nature and apparent role as a healer. While Zora’s⁣ Domain is all but overwhelmed with sludge,⁢ it is ‌Yona and ⁢her attendants who tend to the afflicted ‌Zora. Using their water-based magic, ⁣they are able ‌to ⁢slowly cleanse the ‌bodies of‌ those who have been⁤ submerged in⁣ the Mucktorok’s pollution. As a result, Yona quickly establishes herself ⁢to have a similar disposition to BOTW’s Mipha, and her calm demeanor makes her‌ a perfect ⁢match for the more boisterous Sidon.

Oracle of Ages is a ⁤classic Zelda‍ title ‍that sees Link transported‌ to Labrynna to‌ protect it from the machinations of the evil sorceress Veran. Unusually, Labrynna’s Zora are split into the peaceful Sea Zora (who, ⁤notably, have their own King Zora) ‍and the hostile, monster-like River Zora.⁣ Although Zora have ⁢been both friend and foe to Link,⁢ this is the only time ⁣both‌ types have‍ been encountered in a single game. Assuming that⁢ circumstances in Labrynna haven’t changed by the time ⁢of TOTK, Yona⁣ is therefore most likely to be a Labrynnan Sea Zora, descended from the King Zora whom a past Link‍ once saved from a deadly illness.

Of course, it is important to note that Yona could⁣ come from somewhere else ⁣entirely. Although Labrynna’s circumstances⁣ make for a compelling argument in its favor,‍ her ⁤native Zora’s Domain ‍could also be in a currently-unknown location.‌ Without ‌more information⁤ regarding Yona’s origins, it is unfortunately ‌impossible to say for certain either way. Nevertheless, ‌the fact⁣ that Labrynna is the only truly ⁣suitable location currently known to fans cannot be denied.

Although obviously unconfirmed,⁤ it is interesting to realize that Yona could be⁢ from‌ Labrynna. The country is ⁢one of the⁣ few major Legend ⁣of Zelda⁣ settings outside Hyrule, and has not been‍ heard from in over ⁢20⁤ years.‌ If Labrynna‌ is Yona’s homeland, then this would create‍ an intriguing ‍new connection to ‌the classic location. Furthermore, Yona’s origins could ⁤also be foreshadowing future ⁢Zelda content, such as‍ Labrynna featuring ‌in DLC for ‌ The Legend of Zelda:⁣ Tears of ⁢the Kingdom, or ⁣perhaps even in ⁤an entirely new game. Regardless, Yona is an intriguing reminder of the world outside ⁢Hyrule, where many more adventures may lie in wait.
