Possible Locations for the Sequel of Zelda: TOTK Beyond Hyrule

A sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom could easily take Link beyond Hyrule, and there are plenty of notable locations ⁣that the hero could travel to. Although most Zelda games take place inside Hyrule, the franchise as a whole is no stranger to ⁤visiting other countries, or ⁣even parallel worlds. As a result, there is plenty of variety when it comes to the potential setting of the next major Legend of Zelda title.

After two grand adventures to save the kingdom, it is hard to see how the franchise could rework Hyrule for another⁣ entry without completely resetting the status quo. After all, following TOTK’s own three-part Hyrule, there doesn’t seem any way real⁢ to expand upon the same setting once again if ‌Nintendo wishes to give Tears of the ⁢Kingdom a sequel. However, the world Link inhabits is far from limited to⁣ Hyrule. As such, it seems that the obvious choice to ⁣complete a full trilogy is to revisit one (or even more) of ⁤these classic settings and have Link face a new threat there.

A return to Labrynna could also⁣ prompt the return of widespread personal time travel to the Zelda franchise, ⁣in a ⁤manner far beyond the function of Recall in‌ TOTK. In Oracle of Ages, traveling between the past ⁣and present with the magical Harp of Ages is a core gameplay mechanic. Combining the potential for time-hopping puzzles with the modern game engine behind Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild could create ⁣an incredible new experience ⁢for⁣ the franchise.

Of⁢ course, if‍ Labrynna ⁤is a possible future destination for Link, then so too is its sister country of Holodrum. Visited in Oracle of Seasons,⁣ Holodrum mirrors its counterpart setting in many ways. Much like Labrynna, Holodrum also has ⁣a Maku Tree of its own, although this one is masculine. Furthermore, in a ⁤curious similarity to TOTK, Holodrum has its ⁣own underground realm: Subrosia, home to the shy and perpetually cloaked Subrosians.‍ Similar to Gorons,⁢ Subrosians live among lava pools and volcanoes, and are completely unbothered ‌by⁣ the heat that this creates.
