The Max Payne franchise needs no introduction. The third-person shooter series from Remedy Entertainment has been receiving critical acclaim for over ten years, and it was one of the first games to popularize the use of bullet time in the shooter genre.
Although several games have been released in the franchise, the first game was released in 2001, making it 22 years old now. Despite the lack of new games in the series for many years, Remedy Entertainment is already working on remakes of the first two games.
The first installment follows the main protagonist, Max Payne, as he tries to uncover the mystery behind the murder of his family. However, this seemingly simple puzzle leads to various plot twists, turning into a much larger conspiracy involving different organizations. Max Payne made a name for itself thanks to its excellent gameplay in the early 2000s. It was an immersive third-person shooter gameplay complemented by the mechanics of bullet time.
This led to rave reviews, with many even claiming it to be the most important game in the action genre for PC. After the success of Max Payne, it was ported to Xbox and PS2.
The writer of Remedy Entertainment, Sam Lake, congratulated this significant date on Twitter, although he made a mistake with the month.
MAX PAYNE was first released on June 23, 2001, 22 years ago. Happy birthday, Max. #maxpayne @remedygames @RockstarGames
