Recently, an increasing number of Russian game studios are opting to launch their games exclusively on VK Play. While this may benefit local players with favorable pricing and bonuses, it does limit the choices available to users. The developers behind the Russian MMO shooter PIONER from GFA Games studio are committed to preserving player freedom by exploring various avenues for the game’s global release.
Alexander Nikitin, the director of GFA Games studio and lead developer of PIONER, recently discussed the game’s distribution model on the podcast “GameDev from the First Person”. Nikitin mentioned that the release format for the MMO shooter is still under consideration, with the team weighing multiple options. Once a decision is made, players will be informed through official channels.
The studio’s current plan is to launch PIONER globally. Nikitin revealed that negotiations are ongoing with several major publishers. The game will be published by two companies, with discussions underway for a third company to handle a specific region. The goal is to reach as many players as possible, including the vast market in China.
Partnering with a third-party publisher for PIONER opens up the possibility of the shooter being available on platforms like Steam, along with its own launcher. More details on this will be shared closer to the game’s release.
