North Korea has conducted a suspected unsuccessful missile test, as reported by South Korea’s military, following Pyongyang’s claim of a successful launch of a spy satellite.
The launch took place in North Korea’s capital region late on Wednesday, with the missile being fired into the sea east of North Korea. The attempt seemingly failed, according to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who provided no further details about the type of missile used.
South Korea responded to North Korea’s satellite launch on Tuesday by suspending parts of the 2018 inter-Korean military tension reduction agreement. This agreement had established a buffer zone and prohibited aerial surveillance along the heavily militarized border with the North.
