Oscar-winning actor Nicolas Cage’s appearance in Dead by Daylight marks his first foray into the world of video games, but hopefully not his last. Across a decades-long career, Cage has made a name for himself as one of the most daring and distinct actors in Hollywood. He boasts a diverse list of credits, with roles spanning almost every imaginable genre. Recently, he garnered acclaim for his understated performance in Pig, and for portraying an exaggerated version of himself in 2022’s The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. Nicolas Cage will next reprise his most iconic role – Nicolas Cage – in Dead by Daylight.
Sure, Cage is an accomplished film actor, but his video game debut is long overdue. Cage is a powerhouse in the horror film industry, so his breaking into horror games makes perfect sense. But he’s also excelled in action, fantasy, science fiction, crime drama, and superhero roles, all of which happen to be popular video game genres, too. His appearance in Dead by Daylight could very well be the start of a new chapter in Cage’s career.
Move over, Johnny – there’s a new Cage in town. Prior to Nicolas Cage’s appearance at Summer Game Fest, the upcoming Mortal Kombat 1 wowed players with a demonstration of its brutal fatalities and brand-new Kameo fighters feature. The fighting game would do well to add Cage to its roster – he could play a new character, or even himself. The real-life Nicolas Cage is a black belt in jiu-jitsu, a fighting style occasionally employed by MK’s Raiden. It’d be a far cry from Dead by Daylight, but Cage would be a welcome addition alongside actor and martial artist Jean-Claude Van Damme, who plays Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat 1. Now that’s a cage match.
It seems like director Hideo Kojima scans a new actor’s facial capture data into Death Stranding 2 every day; one of these days, Nicolas Cage might be the lucky one. While little is known about what roles any of the new cast will play in Death Stranding 2, there are many different places Cage could fit in: as one of Sam’s fellow porters, a genius but volatile Bridges scientist, or even just in a brief cameo à la Conan O’Brien. Kojima is a fan of Cage’s work, so if Cage is looking for more video game roles after DBD, a Kojima Productions game isn’t out of the question.
Nicolas Cage already dresses like a Cyberpunk 2077 character, so it’s easy to imagine him in a future sequel. He’s frequently photographed in bright patterns, statement jackets, and bold sunglasses. Give him some cybernetic implants and a hot rod, and he’d be right up there with any of Night City’s most fearsome crime bosses. Cyberpunk 2077 already had its celebrity cameo, with Keanu Reeves portraying Johnny Silverhand; Cage might as well be next in line after Idris Elba appears in Cyberpunk’s upcoming DLC. Cage stars in the bizarre, genre-bending 2021 film Prisoners of the Ghostland, which draws a lot from cyberpunk aesthetics. He can hold his own against DBD’s supernatural killers, so Cyberpunk’s…
