Netanyahu’s Judicial Plan Sparks Growing Protests in Israel

Tens of thousands of protesters have gathered in the streets of Tel Aviv and other Israeli cities, vowing to cause “days of disruption” as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s far-right government pushes forward with its plan to revamp the judiciary.

The demonstrations on Saturday marked the 28th consecutive week of protests against Netanyahu’s plan and come shortly after his government granted initial approval to a crucial bill that is part of the overhaul.

The bill, which passed its first reading, aims to limit the “reasonability” clause that allows the judiciary to invalidate government decisions.

Additionally, it would grant the government more influence in the appointment of judges.

The bill still requires approval in two more votes, expected by the end of the month, before it can become law.

In Tel Aviv, protesters unveiled a large banner with the message “SOS” and released paint powder into the sky, creating streaks of pink and orange.
