Lebanese Minister’s Comments Could Strain Kuwait’s Bilateral Relations

A dispute ‍has arisen between Kuwait and Lebanon after⁣ Lebanon’s caretaker Economy⁣ Minister Amin ⁣Salam made comments about rebuilding a ‍section of⁣ Beirut’s port.

Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber‌ Al-Sabah criticized Salam’s remarks, ⁤which were made on Wednesday. Salam had urged Kuwait⁣ to rebuild Lebanon’s main ⁣wheat silos, suggesting that the decision could be made⁤ easily.

The silos were originally constructed in 1969 with funding from the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, but they were destroyed‌ during the Beirut port explosion in 2020.

Al-Sabah stated that Salam’s comments were not in line with the usual political decision-making process and called on him to retract them in order to protect the bilateral relationship between the two countries.

Salam, in response, clarified that he did not⁤ intend to ⁢offend anyone with his comments and that he was simply referring to the speed at which a decision could be made, ⁣as⁣ reported by Lebanese media.
