Larian Studios urged by Baldur’s Gate 3 players to modify Mintara.

Some Baldur’s Gate 3 players are⁢ requesting changes to Minthara, the Drow paladin, as they believe she is the least utilized companion in the‍ game without⁤ a valid ⁤reason. Minthara was a popular ‌romantic option in Baldur’s‌ Gate 3 during the early access phase, ‌but⁣ recruiting her ‍was ⁢always a costly endeavor.

The easiest ⁤way to add ‌Minthara ‍to the group ⁤is by⁢ assisting the ‌goblins in destroying the Grove in Act 1. However, this⁢ choice⁢ is considered ‍comically evil, causing many players to ⁣miss‍ out on the game’s only Drow companion. If the quest is completely ignored, she can‍ be recruited in Act 2, but with reduced ⁢XP ⁢and similar disadvantages as raiding the refugee camp. This means the player will have to ⁢forgo many ⁣quests, loot, and merchants. Raiding the‍ Grove also results in losing three other companions, and ignoring ⁤the questline leads to losing Halsin.

Unsatisfied with this‌ situation, a ⁢portion of the fandom has ⁣started demanding “justice for⁢ Minthara.” A recent⁣ Reddit post requesting changes to the character received 6k upvotes in less than a day, along with numerous additional requests for Larian to make it ‍easier to recruit the Drow paladin. Some ‍players argue that tying⁣ Minthara to⁣ an evil playthrough doesn’t make sense since she herself is ‌not‌ inherently immoral. Others claim that the consequences for refusing to kill her and the rest ‍of‍ the goblin camp inhabitants in ⁢Baldur’s ‌Gate 3⁣ are too severe.

In the‍ first ⁢patch, several fixes were made to Minthara’s⁣ dialogue ⁣triggers and scenes, but ‍the core mechanics of recruiting her remained ⁤unchanged. The possibility of Larian⁤ actually making her‍ available for hire while also ⁣saving ‌the ‍Grove seems uncertain. Although such a decision⁣ could be made considering the complexities of the story and her moral commitment, ‌the reward for being evil is already relatively small.

Moreover, by playing as a blatantly immoral adventurer, players are forced to miss out on ⁣hours of⁤ content. Allowing non-evil characters to hire Minthara would further exacerbate the imbalance between good and evil playthroughs, which is unlikely ‍to be a step Larian takes in ‍the future.
