Lack of Understanding: Norman Reedus and Mads Mikkelsen’s Perception of Hideo Kojima’s Visions in Death Stranding

Hideo Kojima is known as a game designer with a very visionary creative mind, to such an extent that it can be very difficult for even the participants of his games to immediately understand what he wants to say. This is exactly what happened to Norman Reedus and Mads Mikkelsen in Death Stranding.

Mikkelsen himself revealed this during an interview with GQ, dedicated to the most famous roles he has played in his career. The actor admitted that initially he and Reedus did not understand the vision that the game designer had for the game and their characters, but nevertheless, they still put complete trust in his work.

“He tried to explain it to us, not just once, but we both thought we understood, although in reality we didn’t. When he tried to explain the project to us, there were so many layers that Norman and I would try to nod at the right time, and then say, ‘Got it, let’s move on,'” says Mikkelsen.

In any case, according to the actor, with Kojima, you can only do one thing: “You have to trust him.”

Then Mikkelsen confessed that he finds “a bit ridiculous all the motion capture equipment used for shooting,” although in the case of mistakes on the set, he still felt calm because he knew that Death Stranding is an animation work, and therefore everything could easily be fixed in the development phase.
