The first trailer for John Woo’s Christmas action movie “Silent Night” has been released, in which the silent Joel Kinnaman becomes furious.
The trailer gives a first look at Woo’s first Hollywood film in 20 years, which is almost devoid of dialogue. Woo, an action icon, told EW that his challenge was “how to make the audience embrace a story without dialogue and make them feel it.”
As seen in the trailer, Kinnaman’s character gets shot in the throat, resulting in him losing his ability to speak. After the death of his young son, he seeks revenge, and if this somewhat reminds you of ”John Wick,” it shouldn’t be surprising. Basil Iwanyk, who supervised the entire “John Wick” series as a producer, is also the producer of “Silent Night.”
In an interview with Vulture in July, Woo said that the absence of dialogue in “Silent Night” allowed him to “use visual images to tell the story, convey the character’s emotions.”
We use music instead of language. And in this film, it’s all about sight and sound. The budget was a bit limited, the schedule was tight, but it made me change my working style.
“Silent Night” will be released on December 1.
