Is There a Prize for Collecting All Bubbul Gems in Zelda: TOTK?

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom offers many optional side objectives to collect different items from throughout Hyrule, including finding every Bubbul Gem and bringing them to Koltin at his shop. The gems are a brand new collectible item to the Zelda games, having never appeared in any before TOTK. They can only be looted after they are dropped by Bubbulfrogs hidden within caves scattered across the world, but players who are up for the task of finding at least some of them are rewarded with good loot in exchange.

Similar to trying to collect all the Korok Seeds for Hestu, finding the locations of all the Bubbul Gems in the game can be a difficult pursuit. Side collectible objectives like these not only add another layer of challenge to the game but are fun ways to help players feel more of a purpose in exploring the massive open-world environment that Tears of the Kingdom provides. Locating all 146 Bubbul Gems in TOTK is time-consuming, and Koltin only offers rewards for the first 46, but dedicated players can earn a secret reward after the other 100 are turned in.

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s monster merchant, Koltin, has a passion in life to become a Satori. He read that to do this, he must eat Bubbul Gems, despite his quest apparently requiring Link to ultimately make the Bubbulfrogs become extinct. The player is tasked with bringing Bubbul Gems to Koltin, for which he provides rewards of everything from Hinox Toenails to pieces of the Mystic armor set. Once there are 100 Bubbul Gems left in the world, Koltin says he has no more rewards to give.

If a player chooses to find the remaining 100 Bubbul Gems and bring them to Koltin, they are met with a very sweet story surprise. Koltin gives players his Koltin’s Fabric, can become a beautiful glowing paraglider design, and then he transforms into a Blupee. Players can go to Koltin’s brother, Kilton, and tell him what has happened, and Kilton moves Koltin’s shop to the top of Satori Mountain where it is surrounded by Blupees when Link arrives.

To nearly match the number of Bubbulfrogs and Bubbul Gems, there appears to be 147 caves in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, with one found cave in the Depths not holding a Bubbulfrog. In order to find the 146 Bubbulfrogs hidden throughout the world to collect the gems, it will require either a lot of exploration on the part of the player or the use of guides. Whether earning the reward of the paraglider fabric, easy access to Blupees, and seeing Koltin realize his dream is deserving of all that trouble will ultimately be up to the player to decide.
