Approaching its 60th anniversary, Gatorade is not slowing down. The brand is venturing into new product categories, including unflavored water and energy drink mixes. Since its establishment in 1965, Gatorade has been the leading sports drink, holding 63.5% of the U.S. sports drink market in 2023. Its owner, PepsiCo, has also integrated other fitness-related brands like Propel and Muscle Milk under the Gatorade umbrella. Despite its dominance, Gatorade continues to innovate in response to increasing competition in the industry. According to Rabobank, the sports drink market has seen more change in the last five years than in the previous 20 years. Coca-Cola’s Powerade and Bodyarmor brands, while significant, only account for about a quarter of the market, leaving Gatorade as the undisputed leader.
