Introducing a New Origin in Baldur’s Gate 3: Step into the Mind of a Serial Killer

Originally, it was supposed to be a new companion, but the developers came up with something more interesting.

Baldur’s Gate 3 can be much bloodier than you might have imagined, as a serial killer is one of the Origins you can use for your character. This Origin is called “Dark Urge”, and by following this path, you can create any combination of race/class for your avatar, rather than being limited to a specific character type.

Those who played Baldur’s Gate 3 in early access were limited to the default avatar, but in the final version of the game, a Origins system similar to the one used in Divinity: Original Sin 2 will be used, where you can play as one of your party members and turn them into the main character. Among the confirmed originals for Baldur’s Gate 3 are Astarion, Gale, Karlach, Lae’zel, Shadowheart, and Wyll, as well as a custom original that allows you to create a character from scratch.

The latest Origin for Baldur’s Gate 3 was revealed during the final Panel From Hell event. The final Origin, called Dark Urge, implies that the character is filled with a desire to commit murder. Judging by the promotional illustrations, they are manipulated by a strange creature in a hat.

Dark Urge stands out from other Origins with its gameplay style, its own story rhythms and narrative. The character is forced to commit evil acts, which they can resist. In this game, the character can perform horrific acts of violence, including tearing off Gale’s arm when he reaches out to you in the early stages of the game.

One of the criticisms of the original Baldur’s Gate games was the lack of support for evil party members. Larian Studios has turned the tables, as the game has many options for evil characters and their allies. Baldur’s Gate 3 is already noticeably darker than its predecessor, and the path of Dark Urge may allow you to tell one of the evillest Dungeons & Dragons stories of today.
