US President Joe Biden’s son Hunter has filed a lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), alleging that two agents unlawfully shared his personal tax information.
In the lawsuit filed on Monday, Hunter claims that the agents from the United States tax agency specifically targeted him and attempted to publicly embarrass him.
Furthermore, Hunter argues that the federal whistleblower protections invoked by the agents do not permit the disclosure of confidential information during press interviews and congressional testimony.
This legal action comes amidst an ongoing investigation into Hunter, which is taking place against a highly politicized backdrop, including an impeachment inquiry against his father.
Last week, Hunter was indicted on federal firearms charges, with prosecutors alleging that he made false statements about his drug use in order to obtain a firearm in 2018.
While his defense attorneys have expressed their intention to contest the charges, the case may potentially lead to a high-stakes trial as the 2024 election approaches.
