“Harry Potter” Cast, Including Daniel Radcliffe, Honors Michael Gambon’s Iconic Portrayal of Dumbledore

Michael Gambon is best known‌ for his role as Albus Dumbledore, the headmaster of Hogwarts. ⁤He took on the role⁤ after Richard Harris, who played the ‌character in the‍ first two films, passed away. Stepping into a role that was so memorable and previously played by another actor is no small feat, but Gambon quickly⁢ made Dumbledore his own.

In a statement, “Harry Potter” star ⁤Daniel Radcliffe paid tribute to Michael Gambon, who recently passed away at⁤ the age of 82. ⁣”With the loss of Michael Gambon,⁤ the world has become considerably less joyful,” ⁢Radcliffe wrote. “Michael Gambon was one of the most brilliant and relaxed actors I’ve ever‌ worked with,⁣ but despite⁤ his tremendous talent, what I’ll remember ⁤most about⁢ him is how⁣ much he enjoyed his work.”

Radcliffe continued, “He was⁤ down-to-earth, cheeky, and fun. He loved his⁢ job, but it⁤ never⁢ seemed to ⁤define him. He was ‌an incredible storyteller and joke teller, and ⁣his habit of blurring the⁣ lines between fact and fiction when talking‌ to journalists meant that he was also one of the most⁤ interesting people you could ever wish to have a press conference with. In the sixth film, I had to spend the most time working with Michael, and he made the hours spent together in front⁢ of the green screen more memorable and ⁤joyful ‌than‌ they‍ had any right to be. I’m so sad to ⁣hear that he’s gone, but ⁤I’m ‍so grateful that ⁢I am one of⁤ the lucky ones ‌who ⁤got to work with him.”

“Harry Potter” creator ‍J.K. Rowling paid tribute to Michael ⁢Gambon on ⁤Twitter. “I’ve just heard the devastating news about Michael‍ Gambon,” Rowling wrote. “I first ⁤saw him in “King Lear” in 1982, and if you’d told me then that this brilliant‌ actor would appear in everything I wrote, I’d ‍have thought you were mad. Michael⁣ was not only‌ a talented actor, but also⁢ a ⁢wonderful person, and I ‌loved working‌ with ⁤him not just on ‘Potter,’ but⁢ also on ‘The Casual Vacancy.’ My deepest ‍sympathies to Michael’s ‍family and all who loved him.”

Rupert Grint, who played Ron Weasley, said, “So sad to⁣ hear about Michael. ⁤He brought so much warmth and mischief to every day ⁢on set. He‌ enchanted me as a child and became a personal ‌role model in the pursuit ⁤of fun and eccentricity‍ in life. Sending all my love⁤ to ‍his⁣ family.”

Jason Isaacs,⁣ Lucius Malfoy in⁤ the Hogwarts‍ universe, added, “The magnificent Michael Gambon has ‌died. I discovered what acting can be ⁤like working with Michael on ‘The ‌Singing Detective’ — complicated, ⁣vulnerable, and completely human. The ⁣biggest thrill of‌ being ⁤in Potter movies was that he knew who I⁢ was and shared his fearless, filthy sense of fun with me.”

David Yates, who directed the last four films of the Harry Potter franchise, said, “Michael was mischievous and playful, but also ⁢deeply ⁢thoughtful as an actor. It felt‍ like ‍he was bemused, even slightly amused by all the hype and ⁢noise surrounding the Potter world, but he ‌still poured his heart and soul into creating that unforgettable, subversive, soulful Dumbledore. He was also a joy on set, pragmatic, approachable,⁢ funny, grounded, and effortlessly made all the young actors around him feel ⁢at ease.⁤ He was one of the greats, and‍ we ‍will all miss him.”
