Tania von Uslar-Gleichen, a legal adviser for the German Foreign Ministry, argued at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) that Nicaragua’s case lacks evidence and jurisdiction, urging its dismissal.
She emphasized that Germany carefully monitors arms exports to ensure compliance with international law, stating that the country is committed to supporting both Israelis and Palestinians.
Given Germany’s historical responsibility towards Israel, particularly in light of the Holocaust, von Uslar-Gleichen stressed the importance of Israel’s security.
Germany, a major donor of humanitarian aid to Palestinians, is also a significant military supplier to Israel, with exports totaling 326.5 million euros in 2023.
