The game will become similar to Mad Max
Despite the fact that the Fallout universe has been heavily inspired by the cult film series “Mad Max”, from which it borrowed images for wastelands, bandits, and hero costumes, the element for which Mad Max is most famous is absent in Fallout – cool combat cars with which one can conquer the wasteland.
After Fallout 2, which had only one car to speed up travel on the world map, and Fallout Tactics, which had the largest fleet of cars in the series, Fallout games no longer featured drivable vehicles. This misunderstanding was resolved by the authors of Fallout: The Frontier (specifically Ukrainian coder Xilandro) by adding several fully controllable cars to the game, which seemed impossible to implement on the Gamebryo game engine. The problem was that the Fallout: The Frontier mod itself was quite heavy and had a controversial narrative that didn’t fit well with the lore, and it was not possible to separately install the drivable vehicles without it.
Now, third-party modder Lord zomX has managed to create a separate modification dedicated to drivable cars, which does not require downloading Fallout: The Frontier. The mod is called Frontier Standalone Cars and it has transferred almost the entire fleet to the original New Vegas, allowing the Courier to ride through the Mojave Desert, knocking raiders off their path. Just don’t forget to refuel your car with an organic fuel jerry can.
The author claims that the cars will appear randomly in different locations in the Mojave, but just in case, you can use console commands to summon the cars, which can be found in the mod archive, for example player.placeatme TFDCBuggy. Then add jerry cans to your inventory using the console command Player.additem TFWeapJerrycan X, where X is the number of jerry cans.
It’s incredible that such a mod was realized on Bethesda’s engine. Considering that in the recently released Starfield, the company introduced a fully controllable spaceship, and mod authors were able to implement both fully functional cars and a full-size train (see Fallout: London), does this not mean that in Fallout 5 we will be tearing through the wasteland like Mad Max?
The file was removed from Nexus Mod, and Xilandro was offended by Lord zomX, but the mod was uploaded to external sites. You can download the modification from our website. Keep in mind that the mod extensively uses workarounds for the Bethesda game engine, so crashes may occur. Also, don’t forget that the game design of New Vegas is not designed for vehicle travel, so you may encounter difficulties, especially when driving on a bumpy road (and it is impossible to enter New Vegas without console commands). You can also combine this mod with other mods related to the transportation system taken from The Frontier, such as the mod for the Highwayman from Fallout 2. Just rename the esp file to Frontier.esm (the file itself is an esm, but for some reason named esp).
It is worth noting that the following files are required for the modification:
– Official expansion Old World Blues
– NVSE
- FNV 4GB Patcher
– JIP LN NVSE Plugin Version 57.10 (for fixing the camera in cars. I, as the author of the article, would like to note that on later versions like 57.21 the fix may not work)
– JohnnyGuitar NVSE
– NVAC – New Vegas Anti Crash
– UIO – User Interface Organizer
