Head of Bethesda Softworks, Pete Hines, in an interview with Vandal, talked about the studio’s future plans and asked when we can expect to hear about The Elder Scrolls 6 and if it is still in the pre-production stage. Hines was completely honest and stated that The Elder Scrolls 6 has moved past the pre-production stage – the earliest stage of game development, aside from the concept stage. The game is now in full development, but Hines couldn’t help but note that it is still in an “early” stage. As for when we can learn more about it, well… it will take some time.
We have focused all the efforts of our studios on making Starfield as good as possible. Yes, there are people working on The Elder Scrolls VI, but that’s not where the studio’s focus is. So, no, you won’t hear about The Elder Scrolls VI. Starfield is our priority at the moment, and it will remain our priority for some time before we start talking about anything else.
At the moment, The Elder Scrolls 6 does not have a release date. Considering that the game has just entered full development, it may take some time. Starfield took about ten years from start to finish, but it’s worth noting that COVID played a role here, as Xbox gave Bethesda much more time to work on the game after its acquisition, and also because it was an entirely new IP. The Elder Scrolls is something that Bethesda is more familiar with and may be able to release the game much earlier than Starfield. Xbox boss Phil Spencer stated that, in his opinion, the game is at least five years away from release, which means The Elder Scrolls 6 may not come out before 2028.
