Cult of the Dead Cow (cDc), a hacking group known for its activist endeavors, has developed an open source tool called Veilid for developers to create secure apps. The tool, launched at DEF CON on Friday, offers features such as the ability for users to opt out of data collection and online tracking. This aligns with the group’s mission to combat the commercialization of the internet.
“We believe that the internet has transformed from a landscape of knowledge and idea sharing into a monetized corporate machine,” stated cDc leader Katelyn “medus4” Bowden. “Our vision of the internet resembles the open landscape it once was, before our personal data became a commodity.”
