FIFA-Less EA Sports FC 24 Ultimate Edition Cover Starts Off on a Horrifying Note

The upcoming EA Sports FC 24 not only doesn’t have the license to use the FIFA name anymore, but seems to be making things even worse for itself with the new Ultimate Edition cover. EA Sports FC 24 is claiming to be the most realistic virtual football game yet created thanks to new technologies and animations that have been put into the game. Whether this proves to be the case when the game is released this September is yet to be seen, but if the cover is any indication, things aren’t looking good for the franchise.

Due to EA Sports losing rights to the name FIFA, this year’s game may have a harder time trying to convince players to purchase it. Many casual FIFA fans may not be aware that the latest edition of the series will not carry forward the name they are used to looking for. Even for longtime fans who are aware of the change, seeing the poor graphic design used in the cover art has turned some prospective players off, and created a bit of a joke online.

The new cover for EA Sports FC 24 Ultimate Edition can actually be quite humorous when looked at closely. From the blank stare and plain blue tee shirt of Andrea Pirlo in the top right corner, to the overall plastic mannequin feel of most of the players, nothing really looks quite right. Since the cover debuted, fans have not responded well, with many even suggesting that the cover may be an indication of the overall game quality and making them rethink their purchasing decisions.

As Twitter user Monica pointed out in their response to EA Sports FC 24’s reveal of the Ultimate Edition cover, it truly does give a feeling of if a bunch of characters from The Sims got together to pose for the photo. The heavy marketing emphasis that EA Sports has taken on persuading players that this will be a truly immersive and realistic experience perhaps should have been extended to the cover design as well.

Losing the branding of the FIFA license will likely hurt EA Sports FC 24 from fans who may be used to grabbing the latest FIFA game that may not be aware of the new title. Providing an impressive cover would have been a great benefit to the game by catching the attention of these prospective players and encouraging them to give it a better look. Instead, its poor quality gives an impression that the game could be nothing more than a poor knock-off and doesn’t reflect the advertised high quality graphics and animations that EA Sports claims the game features.
