The renowned industry insider Tom Henderson has obtained new information about the upcoming main installment of Far Cry from Ubisoft, following an exclusive report in January. The next game, internally known as Project Blackbird and referred to as Far Cry 7, is scheduled to be released in autumn 2025. Ubisoft Montreal will be responsible for its development, and the game will transition from the Dunia engine to Snowdrop.
According to sources, the next entry in the series will feature a nonlinear storyline, with the primary focus being the player’s mission to rescue their kidnapped family. The game’s narrative revolves around a wealthy family that has been abducted by a group of conspirators known as the “Sons of Truth.” While specific details may change during the game’s development, the core objective of the campaign is for the player to save their entire family within a designated time period. Currently, the in-game timer is set at 72 hours or 24 real-time hours, but it can be paused when the player enters one of their hideouts.
The nonlinear nature of Far Cry 7 means that family members do not need to be rescued in a specific order, and it is possible for some family members to be killed, which will impact the story. Although details are still somewhat unclear, it is understood that the ultimate goal is to eliminate the “Sons of Truth,” and in order to achieve 100% completion, players will need to safely rescue all members of their family.
It has been revealed that Far Cry 7 introduces a new interrogation mechanic to search for family members, although it does not guarantee that the player will always obtain necessary information from the enemy. It is said that sometimes the enemy provides information, while other times they may lie, remain silent, or even attempt to flee.
