Google is extending the deadline for converting a WiFi-only Stadia controller to Bluetooth until December 31, 2024. Previously, the deadline was the end of this year.
Earlier this year, Google discontinued its cloud gaming service, Stadia. While most customers received refunds for digital games purchased through the Google Store, some physical hardware, like the Stadia controller that connected via WiFi, is still in circulation. Enabling Bluetooth on these controllers allows users to use them with other devices such as PCs, Macs, phones, or tablets. This move could help reduce e-waste, as noted by Kotaku.
The process of switching the controller to Bluetooth is permanent and takes approximately three minutes. It requires a USB cable. To pair a Stadia controller to Bluetooth, press and hold the Y and Stadia buttons for at least two seconds. The controller will enter “pairing mode.”
