Alone in the Dark, the horror game, will not feature Denuvo protection or microtransactions.
THQ Nordic and developer Pieces Interactive have unveiled the final requirements for the PC version of Alone in the Dark, along with other details about the upcoming horror game.
In a post on the game’s official Steam page, both studios addressed common issues, technical requirements, and content-related matters for Alone in the Dark, set to be available on PC and consoles in just a week.
The PC requirements are not overly demanding, but for optimal gameplay, a decent graphics card is recommended.
Whether playing at minimum or recommended settings, Alone in the Dark will need Windows 10 and a 64-bit processor. Additionally, the game must be installed on an SSD with at least 70GB of free space.
Here’s a brief overview of the disparities between the minimum and recommended specifications for Alone in the Dark.
Spoilers
Minimum
- Processor: AMD Ryzen 3 3100 or Intel Core i3-8300
- GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 570
- 8GB RAM
Recommended
- Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X or Intel Core i5-12400
- GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 or AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT
- 16GB RAM
Most modern gaming PCs with up-to-date graphics cards and processors should have no trouble running Alone in the Dark, and even the game’s recommended specifications are less demanding than many recent releases.
In addition to details about the minimum PC requirements, THQ Nordic and Pieces Interactive also addressed other important questions about Alone in the Dark in a new FAQ. Notably, the game will not feature third-party DRM, meaning it will not be protected by Denuvo. It is also expected to be compatible with the Steam Deck, although it may not receive the coveted Verified rating.
The FAQ also confirms that this project is unrelated to the unsuccessful reboot of Alone in the Dark in 2008, nor to A New Nightmare in 2001, nor to the dreadful Illumination in 2015.
A single playthrough of the game will take approximately eight hours, but to experience everything Alone in the Dark has to offer, players will need to play through the game twice – once as Edward and once as Emily.
Notably, the game will not include microtransactions or any ”other monetization opportunities,” and there are no plans for post-launch content, ensuring a complete experience from day one.
Alone in the Dark is set to be released for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on March 20.
