The Oversight Board of Meta has announced that it will expedite the review of two cases involving content takedowns on Facebook and Instagram related to the ongoing Israel-Hamas war. This is the first time the independent board has chosen to fast-track a review, allowing for a decision to be made in as little as 48 hours instead of the usual weeks or months-long process.
Since the start of the conflict, the board has experienced a significant increase in appeals, with a nearly three-fold rise in daily average appeals concerning the Middle East and North Africa.
