CD Projekt Red’s highly anticipated production of The Witcher 4 is set to kick off in 2024, with a massive team of 400 developers dedicated to the project. Co-CEO Adam Badowski revealed in an interview with Forbes that the goal is to have 400 people working on the game by the middle of the year.
Although the official title of The Witcher 4 has not been unveiled, the project, known internally as Polaris, was confirmed by CDPR in October 2022. Since then, details about the game have been scarce, but the developer has confirmed that a significant portion of its team has been focused on Polaris since November.
It’s evident that CD Projekt Red is shifting its focus from Cyberpunk 2077 to The Witcher 4, aligning with reports from CDPR investors. Co-CEO Michał Nowakowski also hinted at the potential use of AI in the development process, emphasizing that while AI can enhance production processes, it won’t replace human input.
“We believe that AI is something that can help improve certain processes in game production, but not replace humans.”
Learning from the challenges of Cyberpunk 2077’s release, the team is determined to apply these lessons to The Witcher 4. This upcoming installment is just the beginning of a new trilogy, with CD Projekt Red also planning to continue expanding the Cyberpunk 2077 universe and exploring various Witcher spin-offs.
While the release date for The Witcher 4 remains unconfirmed, CDPR has hinted at a timeline for the trilogy’s completion, suggesting that the subsequent games will be launched within six years of the first installment.
