“I understand, I realize that this update should have been out a while ago,” – with these words, Madeline Thorson, the head of Extremely OK Games, began her message. This is the first official post about Earthblade since December 2022. The team has announced the delay of the platformer’s release date.
Originally, Earthblade was set to be released in 2024, but the developers have decided to postpone its launch. “We know that many of you will be disappointed, and we apologize. Perhaps it was expected, but it’s still unpleasant when critics turn out to be right,” the developers wrote. EXOK assured that the game’s production is not at a standstill.
The studio does not intend to expand in order to maintain communication between developers and avoid increasing financial pressure. However, another game designer has joined the team – Kyle Pulver, an experienced indie developer. According to Thorson, Kyle has already brought forth several fresh ideas and allowed the team to approach the project from a new perspective. However, she emphasized that the addition of a new specialist will not hinder the production of Earthblade. In fact, Kyle will take on some tasks from Madeline herself.
As a reminder, the upcoming action-platformer will invite players to explore a seamless and vibrant world, presented in a pixel art style, battle dangerous foes, and uncover numerous secrets. At the heart of the story is the “enigmatic child of Destiny” named Nevoa, who has finally returned to Earth.
Currently, Earthblade is only listed for PC (Steam) among the platforms. There is no Russian translation available. Extremely OK Games has not announced a new release date. It is likely that the game has been pushed forward by a year.
