The Barbarian Class in Diablo 4 is a longtime favorite for many players. However, with a more traditional class, it can take time to develop a build that matches the levels of the more elaborate classes like Necromancer.
With several options to choose from, one that proves both fun and powerful is the Hammer of the Ancients build. By the time players reach the endgame of Diablo 4, this is likely a core skill many will have become familiar with. This build is a great addition to co-op gameplay and a very tanky option for solo gameplay.
Players attempting the Hammer of the Ancients build for the Expertise selection should equip the Two-Handed Sword Weapon Expertise. The benefits of this selection will be +x% (20% at Expertise Level 10) of direct damage inflicted as Bleeding damage over 5 seconds. This will help provide a hefty amount of damage and exploit effects related to Bleed damage on enemies. Bleeding will also allow Barbarians to initiate Hamstring, which slows Bleeding enemies by 10%. Slow is a Crowd Control effect and thus gains any modifier that affects Crowd Controlled enemies.
In addition to other parts of this build, there are several specific Aspects that players should have unlocked before working on this build. They include the Aspect of Ancestral Force, the Aspect of Echoing Fury, and the Bold Chieftain’s Aspect. The first two will be acquired through completing dungeons in Diablo 4, specifically Sunken Ruins in Scosglen and Sirocco Caverns in Kehjistan. The last aspect won’t be found through completing dungeons; it will only be acquired via an item, a ring, engrained with it. Unfortunately, obtaining the Bold Chieftain’s Aspect will be a little more difficult.
Only available once reaching level 50, the Paragon Boards in Diablo 4 are a great way to build on a good character base. Players will begin with an initial simplified board, and depending on how they choose to lay it out, they can further build on additional boards from there. The Paragon Boards can be quite complex and overwhelming initially, but rest assured; they do not need to be followed explicitly for this build to run properly. There are some key features that players should pay attention to for each board, but otherwise, there is a little flexibility with it.
