DreamWorks has announced DreamWorks All-Star Kart Racing, which will feature 20 characters from the studio’s popular animated franchises. The racing title is being developed by GameMill Entertainment in collaboration with Universal Games and Digital Platforms, with GameMill being no stranger to racing games including beloved IPs after its experience with Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2 and 3.
DreamWorks All-Star Kart Racing promises tracks based on some of DreamWorks’ most recognizable locations, which will all be extendable via hidden shortcuts to further explore the iconic worlds during races. There’s a selection of game modes available from Free Races, Cup Tournaments, Challenges, or Time Trials, and players will have the option to enjoy these with up to seven others online, or via four-player split-screen multiplayer.
The character most associated with the DreamWorks studio is Shrek, so it should come as no surprise that players will be able to take control of the iconic ogre and his loyal friend Donkey in DreamWorks All-Star Kart Racing. Shrek and Donkey will have their own unique-yet-fully-customizable karts – as is the case with all the characters in the game - with Donkey riding one that looks like his love interest, Dragon, and Shrek’s sporting a swamp motif. The Kingdom of Far Far Away will also be one of the many locations players will be able to explore during the races, offering up the possibility of other cameos from the fairy tale creatures featured in the franchise.
Two more characters from the Shrek universe who will be included in DreamWorks All-Star Kart Racing are Puss in Boots and his nemesis from Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, the menacing Wolf (who is the physical embodiment of Death and is often referred to as such). Wolf/Death won’t be available in the base version of the game, however, as he and his kart are exclusive to the Digital Deluxe Edition.
Donkey won’t be the only character riding a dragon-themed kart in DreamWorks All-Star Kart Racing. Hiccup and Astrid from the How to Train Your Dragon series will be playable, likely with karts that resemble their dragons Toothless and Stormfly. It hasn’t been revealed which area from the How to Train Your Dragon franchise will likely be adapted into a track for the game, but there’s a wealth of possibilities from the cliffside Dragon’s Edge, to the Hidden World, or Hiccup and Astrid’s home island of Berk that it could pull from.
