Facing the Malefic Ape in Honkai: Star Rail can be a surprise, as this new opponent has a special type of mechanic that can gradually wipe a team if players are not wary. The Malefic Ape is one of the new Elite Enemies added with the Honkai: Star Rail 1.2 update. While it is treated as a regular Elite Enemy in certain maps, it is also featured as an Elite boss in the Simulated Universe. Its complete and official name is Abundance Sprite: Malefic Ape, though it is most commonly referred to as Malefic Ape.
The Honkai: Star Rail 1.2 patch added the Malefic Ape as an enemy present on the Xianzhou Luofu, and it is featured in some of the new maps implemented with the update, namely the Alchemy Commission and the Scalegorge Waterscape. This mini-boss opponent is easier to beat than The Ascended in Honkai: Star Rail, which was also added with Version 1.2, but it can pose a threat. With a targeting mechanic called Monitoring, Malefic Ape can punish party members.
To beat Malefic Ape in Honkai: Star Rail, players will want to employ regular tactics. The first step is to quickly eliminate any other opponents that accompany it on the field. Malefic Ape is usually accompanied by a few Abundance Sprites. They do not deal too much damage, but over time they can be a nuisance. Eliminating Abundance Sprite: Wooden Lupus should be the first priority, as this opponent can summons Shadow Jackhyenas. The second opponent to defeat should be Abundance Sprite: Golden Hound.
After all of Malefic Ape’s allies are taken down, the focus of the party should be turned toward the mini-boss. This new Honkai: Star Rail Elite Enemy has a move called Fiery Majesty, which boosts its own DMG. Aside from this buff, the opponent has two other moves, both of which are the core of its mechanics.
Wrathful Roar grants it 3x stacks of Gusto and marks a random party member with Monitoring. While Malefic Ape has any stack of Gusto, any character that uses a Skill will become Monitored.
