Creators of Mass Effect 5 Allegedly Ditch Open-World Features, Rumors Suggest

Mass Effect is a beloved name in the role-playing genre, introduced by Bioware to millions of people. The franchise has sold over 20 million copies and a new⁢ game is currently in development.

During The Game Awards 2020⁣ ceremony, Bioware ‌revealed a short teaser for the next‌ Mass ‍Effect⁢ game, ‌alongside their work on another Dragon Age game. The focus is currently on the latter, so details about the sci-fi franchise ‍are scarce.

However, a rumor suggests that the next Mass Effect game will not feature open-world elements.

In a recent episode of the Xbox Two podcast, industry‍ insider Jez Corden stated:

I’ve heard that Mass Effect⁣ 5 won’t have⁤ an open world and the game ‌will return to its classic format.

While Mass Effect Andromeda experimented with open-world elements, it did not receive the ⁢desired ⁣response and became an unsuccessful part of the popular role-playing ‍franchise.

Presumably, this has led the studio ⁢to go back to the roots of ⁢the ‌IP, focusing on‌ a more linear and focused gameplay, similar to previous games, ⁢and prioritizing storytelling.

After the disappointment of Mass Effect Andromeda in 2017, other parts of the ⁣game may receive more attention, emphasizing the ⁣elements that⁣ made⁣ the original trilogy ⁢successful.

While Bioware ‍continues to work on the upcoming release of Dragon Age Dreadwolf, the development of ⁣Mass Effect is ⁤also ‌progressing smoothly. The studio recently laid off 50 developers, but they claim that‌ it will not affect the development of both projects.
