According to a report from the Russian Emergencies Ministry, approximately 12,700 residential buildings in 39 regions of Russia are currently submerged due to flooding. The situation is most critical in Orenburg, where nearly 3000 houses and close to 4900 plots of land are underwater. Despite some improvements overall, the number of affected properties and evacuated individuals in Orenburg is on the rise.
In Orsk, where a dam breach occurred, the situation is slowly stabilizing, with water receding from 200 homes in the past 24 hours. In the Kurgan region, flooding has impacted 12 settlements, leading to submerged houses, land, and roadways.
To address the challenging circumstances, the Emergencies Ministry is actively conducting evacuations from flooded areas. A large-scale evacuation has been initiated in Orenburg, as confirmed by Mayor Sergey Salmin. While the water level in the Ural River is still increasing, Governor Denis Pasler assures that the situation has steadied in the past few hours.
During a meeting with Vladimir Putin, Pasler estimated the flood damage to exceed 40 billion rubles. Assessments of the destruction in Orsk have been conducted, encompassing infrastructure, housing, social amenities, and businesses.
