An October 20, 2023 release date has finally been confirmed for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 at the Summer Game Fest event, and to coincide with this announcement, Insomniac Games has revealed details surrounding the game’s pre-order date as well as its various editions. The upcoming title will see players taking control of both Peter Parker and Miles Morales’ Spider-Men throughout the game’s story after each hero had their own standalone title, with players also able to switch between them fluidly and instantly throughout the game’s open world.
As a result, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will see many customization options for either hero. These cover both shared and individual skill trees to improve Peter’s symbiote-enhanced abilities as he bonds with the Venom symbiote or Miles’ bio-electrical ones, through to a variety of suits and gadgets that build upon those seen in Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Therefore, the various editions are primarily showcasing these customization features as part of their early-access bonuses with a collection of suits and skill points at the forefront.
Insomniac’s PlayStation Blog reveal states that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 can be pre-ordered from 10:00 AM local time on June 16, 2023 at all participating retailers, PlayStation Store, and PlayStation Direct. Pre-ordering any version of the game unlocks Peter’s Arachnight suit, and Miles’ Shadow-Spider suit, along with 3 color variants for each, hinting at further customization options per suit, which wasn’t a feature in either of the series’ previous titles. The pre-order bonuses also include an early unlock for the Web-Grabber gadget that was demonstrated as part of Miles’ stealth gameplay to take down a group of Kraven’s hunters in the May 2023 PlayStation Showcase’s gameplay footage, as well as three skill points to get a head start on leveling up the heroes’ abilities.
A quote from Insomniac Games’ Community Director James Stevenson on Twitter confirmed that the pre-order suits have capes, which isn’t something that’s often associated with either web-slinger but should look cool as the heroes traverse the city considering what players have seen of the web-wings gliding mechanics so far. Stevenson also confirmed that these pre-order suits are “early unlocks” in the game rather than exclusives, meaning that players will still be able to unlock them regardless of when players purchased the game, albeit with points earned by carrying out various challenges over the course of the game, as was the case with the suits in the previous titles.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s Digital Deluxe Edition will include the digital version of the game and all the aforementioned pre-order perks and will retail at $79.99, which is $10 more than the game’s standard edition. Its main selling point is its collection of 10 newly-designed suits. The Digital Deluxe edition contains five unique suits for Peter, and five for Miles that have been designed specifically for Marvel’s…
