Beating Arlo in Pokémon GO: Tips for June 2023

Team GO Rocket Leader Arlo is making a comeback in June 2023 in Pokémon GO. Along with fellow Team GO Rocket Leaders Cliff and Sierra, Arlo presents a challenging test where Trainers must exploit Pokémon’s weaknesses to emerge victorious against a new lineup from the Leader.

Trainers must defeat Rocket Grunts before facing a Team GO Rocket leader at random, one of whom is Arlo. Once Trainers have defeated all three Leaders, they can face Team GO Rocket boss Giovanni in Pokémon GO in June 2023. For an additional month, Arlo’s team will be filled with Shadow Pokémon, and Trainers can earn the opportunity to catch one by defeating him.

Compared to Cliff and Sierra in Pokémon GO, Team GO Rocket Leader Arlo has a very mixed lineup, making him the most challenging to overcome. He will always begin with Normal-type Teddiursa, but the variety of options for his last two Pokémon makes the battle tricky. Arlo’s second Pokémon will be either Psychic-type Hypno, Ground- and Ghost-type Golurk, or Fire- and Fighting-type Blaziken. He will finish off with one of Bug- and Steel-type Scizor, Ghost-type Banette, or Electric-type Luxray, according to PokémonGOHub.

As always, selecting the best Pokémon counters increases Trainers’ chances of victory. Two types of Pokémon stand out as key elements to beat Arlo: Dark-types and Ghost-types. Rock- and Dark-type Tyranitar in Pokémon GO can defeat the majority of options Arlo has by itself if equipped with the right attack moves. It is super-effective against Hypno, Golurk, and Banette while proving too strong for Teddiursa. Ghost- and Fire-type Chandelure is strong against Golurk and Banette, while its Fire moves can also defeat Scizor. However, Chandelure is also weak against Ghost-type attacks, which can be an excellent choice to switch to once Arlo’s shields are down.

For the final Pokémon, Trainers should choose a Grass-type, such as Torterra, or Water-type Swampert, based on Arlo’s choice. Torterra is an excellent choice as it is only weak against one of Arlo’s possible options in Blaziken while being strong enough to take down the rest of his team. Despite Arlo always starting with Teddiursa, selecting a Fighting-type Pokémon to defeat it is not necessary, as most other types will still be able to take its health and shields down quickly.
