Despite the fact that the split screen feature is causing issues for the Xbox Series S version of Baldur’s Gate 3, there is still hope for its inclusion. Larian Studios, the developer of the popular RPG, has explained that the split screen functionality is what is preventing the game from being released on modern Xbox consoles. While the more powerful Series X can handle split screen, the Series S is facing difficulties. However, since they are part of the same console family, Larian cannot release two different versions of the game. The developer is working hard to optimize the game for both consoles and recently provided an update on the polishing process, giving hope that split screen may still be possible on the Series S.
In a post by Swen Vincke, the game director and CEO of Larian Studios, it was revealed that the developer’s engineers made a significant discovery. Swen shared graphs showing the Top RAM and Top VRAM consumption of the game on Xbox Series S, stating that the memory is now under control and the game has a buffer for peaks. This improvement was crucial in making Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox Series S a reality. Swen also mentioned that this enhanced performance will benefit all platforms and that the release on Microsoft consoles is very close.
Although Swen did not explicitly mention the split screen feature, his post generated hope. Dave Jones, the voice actor for Halsin in the game, responded to Swen’s post, asking if the improved RAM and VRAM performance increases the chances of split screen being added on the platform. While there was no official reply to his inquiry, the question itself reflects the community’s hopes. Realistically, the graphs showcased by Swen are likely related to improving the game’s overall performance and stability, rather than specifically addressing split screen.
