The founder of Larian Studios, Swen Vincke, revealed in a recent interview with Eurogamer that Baldur’s Gate 3 has been “much” more successful than Divinity: Original Sin 2 during its early access stage. Vincke did not disclose specific sales numbers but stated that Baldur’s Gate 3 sales during early access are approximately five times higher than those of Divinity: Original Sin 2.
It is much more successful than DOS2. They cannot be compared. I think it’s five times more successful in early access, if not more. I don’t know the exact numbers off the top of my head – it sounds crazy, but it’s true. But it’s much, much, much more successful than DOS2 in early access. And that’s alright, because now many people believe in the company, believe in the gameplay that we offer, so they buy the game in early access.
Baldur’s Gate 3 has been available in early access on PC for nearly three years since October 2020. Although Larian has not provided any sales data since then, shortly after the game’s release in early access, Vincke stated that the initial sales of the role-playing game were “insane.”
The full version of Baldur’s Gate 3 will be released on PC on August 3rd, and on PS5 on September 6th. Currently, Larian is also working on a version for Xbox Series X/S. Despite facing difficulties optimizing split-screen for the weaker hardware of the Xbox Series S, the studio claims that this feature is ”mandatory” for the game. Larian hopes that the Xbox Series X/S version will be released in 2023, but no release date has been announced yet.
