With just a few days remaining until the release of Baldur’s Gate 3 out of early access on PC after nearly three years, players can look forward to the addition of the remaining part of the story and many other new materials. One of the lesser-known but still powerful abilities that players possess are the abilities of the mind flayers. These abilities were somewhat limited in early access but have been significantly expanded in the final version.
As detailed in the PlayStation Blog, players have access to a skill tree of 25 powerful abilities divided into three branches. These abilities range from psychokinesis and manipulating others (even influencing their dialogue) to transforming into an elusive beast to sow chaos. However, embracing this side means your character becomes half-illithid, which may not be approved by the party (although they can also participate in parasitizing to gain the same benefits).
In addition to altering their physique after meeting a key NPC in the first act, characters can also change companions and origin characters. This means that Astarion can become someone other than a Rogue if you want to take him on that role. However, this may interfere with their overall story.
Some of our origins are largely tied to their classes. A non-cleric Shadowheart will affect role-playing opportunities in dialogue and the plot. And while nothing will break, and their stories can still be told, it won’t be quite the story we want you to experience.
Baldur’s Gate 3 will be released on August 3rd for PC and on September 6th for PS5.
