For years, ROG Phone users had to settle for average camera quality in order to prioritize their mobile gaming experience, with ASUS citing cost as the reason. In other words, it was a choice between the ROG Phone for gaming or the Zenfone for photography. However, as we enter 2024, the Taiwanese tech giant has finally had a change of heart. Unveiled at CES 2024, the ROG Phone 8 and 8 Pro combine the best of both worlds, featuring the usual array of gaming features in a brand new design, as well as significant camera upgrades inspired by the Zenfone line.
Specifically, the new main camera boasts a 50-megapixel f/1.9 lens, powered by a more efficient Sony IMX890 sensor (also found in the main camera of the OnePlus 11, as well as the 3x periscope camera of Oppo’s Find X6 Pro and Realme’s GT5 Pro). What’s more, ASUS has also incorporated the Zenfone line’s 6-axis hybrid gimbal stabilizer, enhancing low-light photography and introducing a “Super HyperSteady” video mode.
