Nicole Meyer, a representative of the agency, emphasized that the AP was unaware of the attacks until they occurred. The AP’s role is to gather information on global news events, regardless of their distressing nature, using images from freelance photographers worldwide, including those in the Gaza Strip.
The dissemination of a video and photos depicting a girl’s body being transported in a truck quickly became viral content during Israel’s conflict with Hamas. Security experts interviewed by the AFP agency suggested that the deliberate and sophisticated publication of such materials aims to instill a sense of “helplessness, paralysis, and humiliation” among the population, reinforcing narratives favorable to Hamas.
