All graphics processors and consoles will be compatible with AMD FSR 3 technology.

The company AMD has officially ⁤announced the release⁣ of⁤ FSR⁢ 3 technology, which⁣ enhances frame rates and will be the latest addition to the FidelityFX ecosystem. The company has emphasized⁣ that FSR 3 will⁢ be ⁣compatible not only with AMD graphics cards but also with⁤ NVIDIA and Intel graphics accelerators,‌ as well as consoles.

During the Gaming Festival ⁣2023 event at Gamescom, the company revealed that the technology will ‌be featured in ⁣Forspoken and Immortals of Aveum, making them the ⁢first games to support FSR 3. In early 2024, ‌AMD plans to release a technology that will incorporate a frame ⁤generation upscaler into thousands of games.

Almost 10 months have passed since AMD⁢ introduced FSR 3 alongside its‌ RDNA 3 graphics processors. At that time, AMD promised gamers a twofold performance boost compared to FSR 2, and ⁤it was‌ later revealed that the company intends to⁤ utilize⁢ frame interpolation similar to NVIDIA’s ⁣DLSS 3 technology to achieve this significant improvement.

However, there had been no updates‌ on AMD’s FSR 3 until the ⁣Gaming Festival 2023 event at Gamescom, ‍where the company announced its ⁤inclusion in Forspoken‌ and Immortals of Aveum as the first games ‍to support FSR 3.

It is⁢ interesting that AMD chose Forspoken, considering the⁢ game’s‌ lukewarm reception. Despite⁣ being the only PC game to utilize ⁢Microsoft’s DirectStorage API,‍ it lacks any standout features.‍ In our game review, we were unimpressed with its visuals, which ⁢is unfortunate considering it was one of the first games developed‌ on the Unreal Engine 5.

Meanwhile, Immortals of⁢ Aveum is not a particularly large game either and has received mixed reviews. ‍Despite being only a week⁤ old, it reached a peak of less than 1000 concurrent players on PC.⁣ The game utilizes Unreal Engine 5.1, and while the graphics are noteworthy, it demands high graphics performance.

So far, games on UE5 have been underwhelming, to say the least.⁢ It ‌is becoming a trend for⁢ developers to rely on upscaling technologies like DLSS and FSR to achieve ‌playable PC⁢ ports. Fortunately, both of these games (Forspoken with a mod) also offer ⁣DLSS 3, making it easy to compare performance and visual⁣ details with AMD’s FSR 3 technology.

AMD has stated that FSR 3 can‍ be easily integrated into FSR 2-based games, but⁣ we will have to wait and see how it is implemented in these games.
