Cyberpunk 2077‘s 2.1 update has brought about several new changes. While it increases the difficulty of one aspect of the game, it significantly enhances the portrayal of a specific Cyberpunk character: Adam Smasher. Right from his first appearance during the Arasaka heist, Adam Smasher, the heavily cybernetically enhanced head of security for the company, is established as a formidable adversary.
[Warning: This article contains spoilers for Cyberpunk 2077] During the Arasaka heist, Jackie describes the cyborg enforcer as a “Night City legend.” A braindance sequence from Evelyn Parker’s perspective shows him approaching her, emphasizing his towering size. V explains that they could sense Evelyn’s fear in that moment. These early encounters, combined with the later revelation that Smasher was responsible for Johnny Silverhand’s death, make it clear that players will eventually face him in combat as part of Cyberpunk 2077’s story.
Unfortunately, when the time comes to fight Adam Smasher towards the end of the game, the boss battle is somewhat underwhelming. Most builds can defeat him with minimal effort. For example, players with a Netrunner build can easily stack Quickhacks like Short Circuit and Overheat to defeat him within seconds. Those using specific weapons like Comrade’s Hammer can kill him in a single hit.
Many players expressed their disappointment with the Adam Smasher boss fight, considering it to be the final battle that had been built up. However, CD Projekt Red has acknowledged this and announced that the 2.1 update will include “improved boss fights”. During a live stream on the CD Projekt Red Twitch channel, Cyberpunk 2077’s quest director, Paweł Sasko, specifically mentioned Adam Smasher.
Typically, when developers claim to have made boss battles harder, it usually involves reducing the damage inflicted on them or increasing their health bars to prolong the fight and make it more challenging. However, CD Projekt Red appears to have completely revamped the Adam Smasher boss battle, incorporating elements from the character seen in the anime Cyberpunk Edgerunners to make him a more formidable opponent.
