Volodymyr Kadaria, a Belarusian fugitive, is being sought by the U.S. State Department with a $2.5 million reward for his capture. He is accused of infecting millions of internet users’ computers with malware through a cyber scam involving the Angler Exploit Kit and other malicious programs distributed via fake online ads. This scheme allowed Kadaria to profit by selling access to compromised computers and stealing victims’ savings from their bank accounts.
The Angler Exploit Kit, described as one of the most advanced malware tools by Cisco Systems’ Talos Intelligence Group, had the potential to generate over $60 million in illegal profits annually. Kadaria faces charges of wire fraud conspiracy and other related offenses that could result in a maximum prison sentence of 77 years.
