“10 Features in Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom That Are Completely Illogical”

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom introduces several new features to the series, some of which are more sensible than others. Critics and fans alike have praised the game for its Ultrahand building, sky island exploration, and new and improved dungeons. By expanding on Breath of the Wild’s potential while establishing its own unique identity, TOTK has already become one of the most beloved games in the Zelda series.

However, TOTK is far from perfect, and it has its share of flaws and frustrations. Some of these flaws were carried over from BOTW, while others are unique to the sequel. From heavy-handed quests to resource-burning rewards to overcomplicated mechanics, there are many things about TOTK that will leave players scratching their heads.

Building helpful (and often bizarre) contraptions with Link’s Ultrahand ability is one of Tears of the Kingdom’s biggest selling points, but the game neglects to explain how certain Zonai Devices work, expecting players to experiment and find out for themselves. This would be more manageable if these important resources weren’t limited, but the only Zonai Devices at the player’s disposal are the ones they find lying around. Players can also use Zonai Capsules for devices on demand, but these are even more limited, and it’s impossible to choose what the Device Dispensers give out.

In BOTW, players would often encounter a cliff with a desirable reward at the top and start climbing, only for a torrential downpour to make the surface too slippery to climb. There was no way around this, except to find shelter and rest until the weather improved. TOTK attempts to mitigate this with the slip-resistant Froggy Armor, which can be obtained through the Lucky Clover Gazette questline, and some sticky cooking ingredients. However, even with the Slip Resistance effect, Link can still stumble – just less often. Unless he’s wearing the full Froggy Set, the effects are negligible. This half-solution is more frustrating than no solution at all.
