Link has a plethora of new and exciting abilities at his disposal in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, but one in particular stands out as the most overpowered of the bunch. Whether it’s used outside of combat or in the heat of battle – defensively or offensively – the power proves immensely useful, and in many cases life-saving. Unfortunately, some players may unknowingly overlook its true potential during their own adventures.
In TOTK, Link has five new abilities, those being Fuse, Ultrahand, Recall, Ascend, and the fifth semi-secret ability, Autobuild. The protagonist will be introduced to the first four during the tutorial Shrines on the Great Sky Island, but unlocking Autobuild in Tears of the Kingdom will require either completing a side quest or sleuthing out the ability’s location independently. As useful as Ultrahand, Fuse, and Autobuild are with their nearly unlimited capacity for creativity, and as convenient as Ascend is for traversing the massive map of Hyrule, neither ultimately compare to the game’s most powerful ability.
Though it might not be the most glamorous, the Recall ability in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom should not be underestimated, as it’s essentially a free undo button that has endless exploit potential. For instance, if Link accidentally drops an item down a cliff or a chasm, the time-turning ability lets him off scot-free, saving him the inconvenience of retrieving the runaway item (or the frustration of losing it permanently). Recall can also reverse the trajectory of any Ultrahand inventions that have gone haywire – and amazingly, as Reddit user Steel_Neuron discovered, it can even be used to give vehicles infinite battery life and momentum in the air.
Tears of the Kingdom’s Recall ability is invaluable in almost any situation, as it lets players go unpunished for their mistakes. However, it’s also the only power that’s truly useful in the middle of combat. Of course, Fused weapons and Ultrahand builds can give Link a significant advantage, but they require assembly unlike Recall, which can be used in the spur of the moment. For example, it’s a fantastic counter to pesky projectile-hurling mobs, such as Octoroks or Bokoblin Bosses; using the power on an ill-intentioned rock or spike ball can send it back the way it came from, giving the enemy a taste of their own medicine.
On the surface, Fuse and Ultrahand may seem like the biggest game-changers, especially when making use of the most powerful Fuse combinations, or when building the best simple vehicle in Tears of the Kingdom. Indeed, it’s true that the two powers let players run wild, giving them opportunities to build almost anything they can think of. But in the end, it’s Recall that’s the most overpowered ability in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, as it lets Link get creative – not with items and materials, but with the very rules and imitations of the game, instead.
