An inquiry has been initiated against Yevgenia Chirikova, an environmental activist, leader of the Activatica project, and member of the “Forum of Free Russia” council, for allegedly spreading false information related to the military. The Moscow branch of the Investigative Committee made this announcement.
Chirikova is facing accusations in connection with military misinformation shared in a video:
“The investigation claims that Chirikova uploaded a video containing allegedly inaccurate details about the actions of the Russian Armed Forces in Ukraine to a public platform accessible to a wide audience.”
Further specifics have not been disclosed by the Investigative Committee. They have issued a federal-level warrant for Chirikova’s arrest. However, according to “Mediazona,” the activist is not listed in the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ wanted database.
In late April 2024, a court in Komi issued an arrest warrant in absentia for Chirikova, along with chess player and opposition figure Garry Kasparov, former State Duma deputy Gennady Gudkov, and politician Ivan Tyutrin, all of whom are part of the “Forum of Free Russia” council.
The “Forum of Free Russia” serves as a platform for discussions among Russian opposition members, founded by politicians Garry Kasparov and Ivan Tyutrin. The forum’s inaugural event took place in Vilnius in March 2016. Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the forum organized three anti-war conferences in Vilnius. On February 1, 2024, it was announced that Garry Kasparov, the forum’s creator, and politician Mikhail Khodorkovsky were invited to the International Security Conference in Munich in lieu of official Russian representatives.
In January 2024, the Ministry of Justice labeled Chirikova as a “foreign agent.”
