Yevgeniya Chirkova Faces Legal Action for Spreading Military Misinformation

An inquiry ‍has been initiated against Yevgenia‍ Chirikova, an environmental activist, leader of the Activatica project, and member ⁤of the “Forum of Free ​Russia” council, for allegedly spreading ​false information related to the military. The Moscow branch of the Investigative Committee made⁢ this announcement.

Chirikova is facing accusations in connection with military misinformation​ shared in a video:

“The investigation claims that⁣ Chirikova uploaded ‍a video containing allegedly inaccurate details⁢ about the actions of the Russian Armed Forces in⁣ Ukraine ⁤to a public platform accessible to a wide audience.”

Further specifics have not ​been‍ disclosed by ⁣the‌ Investigative Committee. They have issued a federal-level⁢ warrant for‍ Chirikova’s ​arrest.‌ However, according to “Mediazona,” the activist is not listed in the Ministry ⁣of Internal Affairs’ wanted database.

In late April 2024, a court in Komi issued an arrest warrant in absentia ⁢for Chirikova, along with chess player and opposition figure Garry Kasparov, ⁣former‌ State Duma deputy Gennady Gudkov, and politician Ivan Tyutrin, ⁣all of whom are part of⁢ the “Forum of ⁣Free Russia” council.

The “Forum of Free Russia” serves as a platform for⁤ discussions⁢ among Russian ​opposition members, founded by politicians Garry Kasparov and‌ Ivan Tyutrin. The forum’s inaugural event took place in Vilnius in​ March 2016. Following ‌Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the forum organized three anti-war conferences ​in Vilnius. On February 1, ⁣2024, it was announced that Garry Kasparov,⁢ the forum’s⁣ creator, and politician Mikhail Khodorkovsky were invited to the International Security Conference in Munich in lieu⁢ of official Russian representatives.

In January 2024, the ‌Ministry of Justice labeled Chirikova as⁤ a “foreign agent.”
